Attrition Rate in It Industry Essay

According to human resource experts, the average attrition rate is projected to grow at 31 per cent in Indian firms in the April-June quarter, a rise of 9-10 per cent from the preceding quarter (January-March). SPECIAL: Best companies to work for India In the April-June quarter of 2011-12, the average attrition rate was 27 per cent. Generally, employees would have received their annual appraisals during the April-June period and those not happy with their performance review or salary hikes seek better opportunities. Consequently, attrition rates are seen going up in these three months, experts opined. â€Å"In the current quarter, we are expecting an average attrition rate of 30 per cent. In Q4 employees were not keen to switch jobs due to appraisal season. Now in April they reached on higher salary compared to previous one and have a chance to negotiate for better salary with new employer along with new appraised designation,† MyHiringClub.com CEO Rajesh Kumar said. â€Å"Salary and designation are the major factors for higher attrition outlook in Q1, FY13. One more concern is having in employees mind if they’ll change their job in this quarter they are entitled to enter into appraisal cycle with their new employer also. So they are not going to loose anything with job change,† he added. Another HR consultant Ripples Consultancy Services CEO and MD Rishi Raman said. â€Å"We would see a high attrition rate of 30-31 per cent in the first quarter of the current fiscal. The reason behind such attrition is many employees are not satisfied with their appraisals. â€Å"A good performer did not expect 10-15 per cent of hike, their expectation is not less then 20 per cent,† he added. Experts said that attrition would be in double digits in all the sectors. It would be highest in the IT/ITeS sector at 31 per cent, followed by telecom (26 per cent), banking and financial services (23 per cent), aviation and hospitality (22 per cent ), real estate (15 per cent), FMCG (21 per cent), automobile and manufacturing (19 per cent). HR consultants are of the view that employers needs to take various steps in order to retain talent like providing career opportunities and suitable work environment as high attrition impact the company’s resource negatively. â€Å"One of the most effective way to ensure good working conditions for your employees is to provide them with advancement opportunities,† Raman said. Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) margins or operating margins have been dipping for most of the IT biggies in the recent quarters largely because of the spurt in wage inflation. Operating margins of Infosys Technologies declined by 2.36% in June quarter compared with the March quarter. Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and HCL Technologies saw their operating margins falling by 0.7% and 1.1%,  respectively. This slide is not an aberration. The companies’ EBITDA has been on a decline for the past four quarters. On the attrition front, a report by Motilal Oswal, a financial services firm, said that Wipro leads the pack with 23% attrition, followed by Infosys (15.8%), HCL Tech (15.7%), and TCS (13.1%) in the June quarter. The figures have been increasing for all these companies for the past few quarters.

Development of a New Zealand Identity Essay

My report’s focus is to see how the New Zealand identity is portrayed in New Zealand art and literature. The texts I chose come from the early nineteenth century – The Piano – to the 1940s in Frank Sargeson’s short stories. Even though these texts may not be very modern, you can still see that there are a number of different factors that are in them which link to my theme. New Zealand Society In the short story ‘The Hole that Jack Dug’ and in the song ‘Whaling’, the male belongs to the working class. In â€Å"The Hole that Jack Dug†, Jack is a married man who a worker at a quarry. His wife doesn’t like that he does not get a better job, such as one in an office. Even though Jack has the ability to get a better job, he prefers labouring than anything else. In ‘Whaling’ this man is stuck as a whaler for a job, possibly because he lacks proper education. â€Å"But I’m whaling†¦ Not where I want to be. † This lack of education forced him into a job he didn’t want, which might have been what men had to do at the time. This brings up another issue of women being better educated than men. This can be seen in ‘The Hole that Jack Dug’ where Jack’s wife is educated in England. â€Å"†¦ she’d been a governess †¦ read more than ten books by an author called Hugh Walpole. † Because she is interested in literature and Jack isn’t, their marriage isn’t a very good one. Jack shows rebellion against her and her interests, because of her resentment towards him. This can be seen as New Zealand not valuing education during the time which led to people like Jack having working class jobs. These working class jobs can be seen as a New Zealand tradition. Jack and the Whaler were both labourers, a line of work which has continued its way into our modern times. This is evident by the fact the New Zealand has a successful farming industry which requires a large amount of labour. It can also be linked to today’s New Zealand men, who are do it yourself type people who like to fix things themselves. Men and women have not always got along well, as seen in Jane Campion’s film The Piano. The Piano follows a widow and her daughter. The widow has been married by her father to a New Zealand settler. Because Ada is mute and the act that she wasn’t very willing to be married creates problems with her new husband. Ada enjoys playing the piano, an issue that her husband doesn’t care too much about. Ada also has an affair with one of her husband’s workers which makes him so angry that he cuts off her finger. This conflict between men and women can be seen today in the form of sexism and increasing divorce rates. Th is is also shown in ‘ The Hole that Jack Dug’ where Jack’s wife convinces him that the hole was a bad idea and gets him to refill it. This is seen today as women overcome sexism. People like Helen Clark are elected in high positions in our society instead of men. Stereotypes In all of the short stories that I studied, one issue became clear: men don’t say much. This is shown in the ‘They Gave her a Rise’ and ‘The Making of a New Zealander’, both by Frank Sargeson. In ‘They Gave her a Rise’ the male in the story doesn’t say much. In ‘The Making of a New Zealander’, there is a young farmhand. Even though the story is centered around him, the narrator says very little â€Å"Maybe there’s nothing in it and maybe there is. This is often hard to understand, which is maybe why they didn’t say much. It is clear that there are many different sides to the New Zealand identity and they are shown in great depth and detail in NZ literature, and that there are indeed many different viewpoints of it. In the majority of my texts the issue of working class was dealt with more than the other issue s. The importance of working class is still seen in modern NZ society. I think it is a good thing that these issues have had the effect they have because if society keeps advancing, then so will our sense of identity.

California is a famous celebrity such as sunny, luxurious restaurants, expensive closet apartments, and a fascinating city with enchanting masters. In addition, there are many trendy communities struggling to try more new ways. The vibrancy of Californians includes musicians, actors, performers and other notorious fame admired for fifteen minutes of fame. When I first came to California, going to California has never meant to try dreaming through California, or self improvement, or any other cliche. I do not know what California  · dream is at the moment and I can not care about self-reform. I do not know much about California (there is no special psychological image). The genuine Californians are surprised and even seems to be offended. At least California must be the center of the psychological world of everyone. It is said that there are big cities called beaches, smoke, cars, Disneyland, and Los Angeles. I knew that the state capital was a Sacramento since high school, but I do not know where Sacramento is and I do not know the state's geography and culture at all. Why should I do this? In California, everything including dreams and tasks is big. One of the most innovative, busy and expensive places in the United States, how do you imagine California's new dream? Due to US financial pressure, housing, employment, education, and a rapidly changing future are formed. These reasons fueled my passion and drive. During my sophomore year of high school, my drive towards academic excellence became a matter of peer pressure. It was in this paradigm that I initially was drawn to the biological sciences. I considered how a career in medicine or a similarly related field could eventually result in a lucrative profession. I honed and excelled in these studies as I believed this would afford me access to a quality education that would further advance this goal. I adamantly pursued my investigation into the biologic sciences as well as my overall education with this in mind, achieving high grades and maintaining standards well above the average of many of my immediate peers. My father is in the military so I moved around every two years and explored different cultures and people. Moving after my sophomore year I continued my educational journey in a new community at a new school. I gained exposure to a variety of ideas and started to view life and education from a new perspective. I realized that education means more than just success and future career prospects -- that the nature of education and knowledge is oftentimes an end in itself. That is to say that I've gradually realized that there is much more to knowledge than achieving a lucrative profess ion. As my perspective on education changed, so did my interests. Searching out new writers and ideas, I developed a new love for education, particularly the sciences. While I previously viewed them as a means to a career, I have now developed an appreciation for the insight they provide to the human condition. I also gained a new appreciation for community involvement. As a high school student I became highly involved in my own community through engaging in a variety of volunteer activities. I am fluently bilingual, speaking both Spanish and English and have found this a valuable resource for volunteer service. Volunteering is now one of my most enjoyed pursuits, as I sincerely appreciate working with and helping others. I’d like to continue my intellectual journey through studying medicine at the University of Central Florida and harness my knowledge and interests in a meaningful way. During my time of study at the University I will bring the same dedication to area involve ment to the greater Orlando community. In visiting the University, I was struck by the diversity and culturally rich environment. I realize I would make an excellent candidate for the University of Central Florida and make a significant contribution to this community. Technology provides several tools for managers to be able to monitor their employees use of internet; since many companies are opening up the use of the internet at work finding value in allowing their employees to use the internet especially social media while at work have to ensure that the usage is within the compliance of the companies values. Some of these tools range from having each employee sign a user agreement during the initial hiring process making it clear up front what type of usage is appropriate and spelling out what are clear violations of the usage policy. IT departments today are able to put into place system that will monitor and alert them to a user that may have either intentionally or unintentionally have ended up at a web site that would contain content that violates the companies ethical standards. When this happens typically the companies monitoring software will warn the individual that this site is not approved for use at work as well as send a message to their manager letting them know there has been a website accessed that isnt appropriate. This then gives the manager the opportunity to talk with the employee and establish if the site is truly inappropriate at work or if the user truly did not intend to access that site. This type of environment can be viewed in a couple of different ways, one wou ld be a big brother approach that the company is constantly watching over its employees shoulder creating a culture of suspicion and mistrust. This has led to a quicker turn around time to finding and filling positions with the best-qualified applicants, ease of use for HR professionals as well as the cost savings for companies that used to utilize head hunters and the time it took for recruiters to screen applicants from all over the country. Another tool that has saved money and added convenience for both HR professionals as well as applicants is the ability to send questioners, interview with applicants through software such as SKYPE that utilizing both video and audio versus travel costs and online assessments (such as typing tests or call center simulations) (ELLEN A. This works has shown to be more beneficial since the user is seeing the same screen and commands, as they will when using the actual system. Moreover, the resulting advantage can be sustained due to the lack of substitution and imitation capabilities by the firms competitors. British Airways used a Resourced Based Model to achieve above average profitability by developing VRIN (Value, Rare, Inimitable, Non-substitutable) resources (Barney 1991). To substantiate this (Parker 1999), let us go back to the mid-nineties when the group started a portfolio analysis and defined the level of criticality of its operations. Based on this review, decision has been made to outsource resources (including human resources) that are not key to the core business. As other major corporations, they retained the strategic components (VRIN) and outsourced the routine activities. This decision helping the group to achieve outsourcing goals i.e. costs reduction, higher quality of services, agility and better focus on core business to meet the business objectives as defined in the introduction. d. Limitations of the Resource-based model There is no perfect model, or else there would only be one. But what are the ones of this model used by British Airways? Burnes (2004) mentions the lack of empirical support and also the complexity and ambiguousness of the resources definition.
